    Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT)

  • NDT is a non-invasive movement program used to help children with neurodevelopmental delay. It helps to promote development of the nervous system and the brain while inhibiting any retained primitive reflexes. Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that help a baby to survive in the womb and in their first year of life. These reflexes should have all disappeared by the end of the first year, being replaced by postural reactions. If the reflexes are still present or retained after the first year, then a child can show signs of neurodevelopmental delay (NDD) or an immature neurological system.

A child with NDD can display different signs of difficulties:

    • Difficulty riding a bicycle or tying shoe laces
    • Difficulty at school, reading, writing, spellings and maths
    • Social difficulty, relating to other children their own age, may not wish to interact at all and may be very sensitive.
    • Poor concentration and slow processing skills
    • Poor language skills
    • Poor organisational skills
    • Hyperactive
    • Low self worth and self esteem
    • Enuresis
